From The Selma News
The Selma Car Classic is
planned for the third Saturday of April – April 19.
Organizers say the show is shaping up to be a good
one. The town is expected to be teeming with car
enthusiasts as the Selma Development Partnership (SDP)
sponsors the sixth annual event.
Dennis Davis and Albert Kensak, local businessmen
and members of the SDP, are spearheading the effort
to bring the show together. SDP member Kelly Lake is
spearheading fundraising efforts for the event. The
show is expected to feature at least 10 car clubs
and numerous individual car owners with about 200
vehicles on display. “We’ll have the Model-A
take apart exhibit again,” said Davis. “It’s always
a big hit.” During the Model-A take apart exhibit, a
Model-A Ford will be taken apart and put back
together again in about 10 minutes. Davis said the
exhibit has been a huge attraction at past shows.
The exhibition can be seen twice during the show and
will be located on Raiford Street, next to First
Citizens Bank. Class cars from various clubs will
line Raiford and Railroad Streets from 10 a.m. to 4
p.m. on the day of the show. Additional vehicles
will be displayed across Highway 301 in front of and
beside TWM’s Antique Mall and Gallery. Davis
said he hopes to have auto-related vendors, as well
as food vendors on hand for the show. Vendor
applications are available at Town Hall in Selma and
will soon be online at
www.selmacarclassic.com. A vendor fee of
$50 will be charged. Davis and other organizers have
been working with Linwood Johnson of Southland Car
Club on getting the word out about the show and
recruiting clubs to display vehicles. A local band
will perform this year from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on the
stage on Raiford Street. Davis said he plans to
provide exhibitors and their spouses with maps of
the uptown area to promote shopping. Local
businesses and restaurant will be prepared to
accommodate the additional crowds. Local businessman
Larry Stancil has offered to promote the free
community event on digital billboards in Selma and
Smithfield. For more information about the show or
